Nature In The City 2008-2013
This series was inspired by those grassroots gardening efforts and pockets of plant life that pop up in neighborhoods across NYC. I'm compelled by the ways in which foliage plays off the city backdrop; soft leafy greens against solid geometric forms; living breathing, growing, and changing textures against concrete surfaces. I'm also attracted to color contrasts; the vibration of bright greens against brick reds and the movement of fluttering leaves casting cool shadows upon sidewalks and facades. More broadly, I love the idea of a city teeming with nature, softening and enhancing by adding beauty, fragrance, tranquility, shade, and wild life. And so, I aim to capture that life force that surges up through the urban environment and enriches city living.
